The Forge
Five hundred years ago, humanity ran. Something we'd awakened followed us across the void—something hungry. The same Precursor structure that drew our destruction became our escape: a Waygate the size of a moon, opening onto an uncharted galaxy.
We called it the Forge.
For two centuries, we built. Colonies. Stations. Institutions. Grudges. We thought we were writing our own history.
We were wrong.
The Forge was caught in a loop. Ancient beings called Precursors had been fighting across iteration after iteration of reality, resetting time whenever they lost. In the final iteration, a crew of smugglers broke that cycle—not by winning, but by shattering the loop entirely. Every timeline that had ever existed slammed together into one.
That's the Sundering. That's why your Shirren contact remembers a war your people never fought. That's why you wake up knowing languages you never learned. That's why the dead from collapsed timelines are still walking around.
That's why everything is the way it is.
