Miles Crowe

Miles Crowe is a Melbourne writer who survived something impossible. A few months ago, he was struck by a white, driverless delivery truck that should have killed him—but in those fractured moments between impact and unconsciousness, something changed. When he woke in hospital, the world looked the same, but he could suddenly see the supernatural reality layered beneath it: the mythic weight of places, the hidden rules that govern the Mist, the stories playing out in shadows most people never notice. His mostly unsuccessful writing career has taken a strange turn now that he can see the truth.

The incident left him with fragments of memory he's still piecing together—a vision of a Goddess who looked disturbingly like a barista from Neutral Grounds Café, a directive to 'defeat the Demon King', and the unsettling realisation that he was meant to be transported somewhere else entirely. Instead, the supernatural isekai dumped him right back into Melbourne, but now the Demon King is here too, without a chosen hero to stop him. Meanwhile, truck-kun isn't finished—the white truck still hunts the streets, looking to complete what it started. Miles studies at Melbourne University when he's not chasing supernatural stories, and he's currently being treated by a doctor who knows more about the Mist than most medical professionals should.

His first real supernatural case began with investigating the suspicious near-drowning of William Morgan alongside Arturo Notas and Scarlet. The trail led them to the Burning Heart Club, where Miles's tendency to stumble into narrative significance reached new heights—while hiding from mobsters in Francis Martin's office, he took refuge in what he thought was a wardrobe. Instead, he found himself face-to-face with Kytharak'thandul, an eight-foot-tall yeti-like creature who rules an impossible ice kingdom accessible through the back of the wardrobe. Kyle, as he prefers to be called, welcomed Miles as 'hero' with unsettling enthusiasm and bestowed upon him the Mark of Rimefrost—a faintly glowing sigil on his upper right chest that serves as both blessing and beacon. The mark connects him to Kyle's realm and purpose, though Miles is still figuring out exactly what that means.
